Seasonal weddings, part 1 – what makes a summer wedding so great?

Welcome to part 1 of our wedding season’s guide!

We love weddings at every time of the year because each season offers unique features that make it special and magical. But we know that it can be tricky deciding which season will work best for you.

So, we’re here to help you decide which season suits your dream wedding best.

Let’s dive into the advantages of having a wedding during the British summertime.

Why summer weddings are so popular

More guests can attend - summer weddings usually have higher turnouts as it’s the holiday season, and people are more willing to take time off work for a lovely summer wedding. Schools are also on break, making it easier for out-of-town families to attend.

The hope of good weather - summer often offers better weather - yes, we literally spend the rest of the year dreaming of sunshine, warmth, and clear blue skies here in the UK. Summer also brings the added bonus of long days and with the potential of clear skies, a newly-married couple can make the most of their beautiful setting.

More venue options - warmer weather is ideal for outdoor ceremonies and receptions. Many couples love having outdoor spaces at their wedding so they can enjoy picturesque views and have more places for guests to roam. Summer also opens up a range of venue options, including beaches, gardens, vineyards, and countryside locations. Posh Frocks and Wellies can help bring a lot of these gorgeous types of locations right to your doorstep.

Larger flower selection - more flowers are in bloom during the summer than any other time of the year. If you want a variety of colours, shapes, and sizes in your bouquet, summer is a great time to find them. This means that natural decor options, from fresh flowers to vibrant greenery, can enhance your wedding’s look and feel without needing artificial decorations.

Bright colours - summer weddings bring cheerful and bright colour palettes. You can pick vibrant hues that fit the season perfectly. At Posh Frocks and Wellies, we believe any colour works at any time of year, but it’s usually the summer when we see a wider array of colours.

Better honeymoon options - while you can honeymoon anywhere at any time, summer offers more choices, especially for local and European destinations. You can explore parts of the world at their best, with fewer worries about bad weather or off-season closures.

Summer nights - summer evenings typically stay warm, allowing you and your guests to dance the night away without getting chilly. It’s a great time to watch the sunset and dance under the stars, especially in one of our marquees with panoramic window panels. Plus, the extended daylight gives you more time for stunning photos.

Creative reception activities - warm weather expands the scope for guest activities. We often see lawn games, hot chocolate and marshmallow stations by the fire pit when the sun sets, and we’ve even seen a bird of prey display!

Flexibility - weddings offer more fluidity in timing. Since it can get dark late during the summer, you could have an afternoon ceremony with a chilled BBQ reception for dinner, or you can have an early evening ceremony followed by a dinner reception under the stars. Or you can totally make the most of the long day by starting early and finishing late – or early the next day. FYI - these options are so much easier when you choose a marquee wedding with Posh Frocks and Wellies

Healthy meal choices - summer is perfect for light and healthy foods. With a huge range of seasonal fruits and vegetables available, your menu can be fresh, diverse and local. Drinks-wise, you could serve lots of naturally infused water with things like fresh cucumber, lemon, berries or ginger to help keep guests hydrated and just think about the wealth of frozen summer treats for dessert alternatives – delicious!

Versatile attire - summer weddings simply shout out for lighter, breathable attire. Expect to see flowy, sleeveless dresses, lighter suits, or even casual attire, depending on your wedding’s style. The colour choices in the shops are also broader, with bold and bright patterns everywhere. We quite see flip-flop stations in our marquees during the summer months so that guests take off their wedding footwear and enjoy the fresh air on their dancing feet.

Everyone looks and feels their best - a bit of summer sunshine can do wonders for you and your guests. Sunlight boosts happiness, and who doesn’t want an extra dose of joy on their wedding day?

So, there you have it, these factors combine to make summer a wonderful season for weddings. If you are considering a summer wedding, it’s always best to try and secure a venue/location in plenty of time, as these often become booked up well in advance.

Come and visit us at Posh Frocks and Wellies to see what choices we can open up for your summer wedding.
